It really caught on with the Destructive Generation, and it&#039;s been bumping around in pop culture ever after.  Still, the claim that &quot;everybody&#039;s doing it&quot; is more an inept defense for the erosion of standards than an axiom for the ages.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;And where else would this report bounce up but at Columbia University, that captured citadel for the &#039;60s revolutionaries who&#039;ve never since grown up. (Did Kuriansky even poll outside New York City?) Okay, maybe something like it emanated at Berkeley...&lt;/p&gt;
