“American Taliban” Isn’t Hyperbole Anymore…
The Stranger, Seattle’s Only Newspaper
Some very scary s**t is going down in Texas. Scarier than usual. “Repent Amarillo” is a rabid group of religious nuts—homegrown religious extremists of the conservative Christian variety—and they’re not just going after the gays.
But, then again, Pat Robertson is actually starting to look rather normal, sane and on page with Jesus — at least when compared with, “Repent Amarillo,” where ministering the love of Jesus now includes stalking and terrorizing swingers in Amarillo, Texas (until the group disbanded) — and now is about erasing the Episcopalians…
Ya, getting them all fired is certain to bring the gentle, kind and love starved swinging community to the real love of Jesus and the healthy community of believers they so deeply need…

This stuff is all a little creepy. I read through the article, checked out the website, and I also read through the comments. I was quite amazed at the diversity in the people that responded to it. The responses were just about blowing off a lot of steam in a variety of different of directions. Some of the comments, even though they were against Repent Amarillo, I think were just as offensive as what Repent Amarillo is about. I find the comment sections on things like these quite interesting, it is all just rock throwing at a distance and without a face. I think in some ways it can be good, but in other ways – not so much.

Hi Shawna,
Yes, it is — dangerous may be another word…
Honestly, it’s not gonna take long before the justice system of the United States has to step up and do something about these people.
And, at that moment, the cries of religious persecution are going to be shouted from the roof-tops — probably by normal Evangelical churches afraid that action against these freaks will set a precedent.
And, it will — and the silence of those normal believers right now will be the reason it is justified.

As usual, what’s done in the name of religion has little to do with Jesus Christ and who He is. Seriously though how does saying anything “as normal believers” actually help and only adds fuel to these idiots fire, draws even more attention to them, etc.

Hi Kathy,
They thrive in the silence of others.
Their actions are highly shame based — that is to say, they are using this order of absurd behavior to cover the shame they feel in some area — probably the same area.
If they were subjected to constant exposure and the strident delivery of censure from all fronts, the approval of the flaky few they are following would quickly dim in significance.
That approval only matters in the silence of others.
